Memory work for Easter

On Easter Sunday we will post a service for you to follow along with. To prepare, let's all try to learn the opening hymn by heart.

The last night of midweek classes

We recently completed our midweek classes for the year.  It was a busy year, and the kids learned a LOT.  I always love hearing them sing the books of the Old and New Testament, and learning the liturgy and some hymns, along with Bible stories and Lutheran theology, doctrine and practice.  You should all be really proud of our young people!

We celebrated our last night of classes with the younger kids trying a new version of tie dying.  It was SOOO cool!

The kids worked together to help each other put cups inside of a t-shirt, and then secure them with rubber bands.

Then they used Sharpie brand markers and drew pictures/designs inside the circles.

Then, we dropped 8-10 drops of rubbing alcohol on each design. 

And then we watched the design spread.

We ended the night with a game of sorting flash cards with books of the Bible.  The kids had to sort them into Old and New Testament books.  THEN they had to put them all in order!  There was LOTS of singing going on, because almost all of them know the books of the OT and NT because of the song they’ve learned.  It was great fun to watch!

THE SACRAMENT OF THE ALTAR

Where is this Written?  The holy Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and St. Paul write:

Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said : “Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you.  This do in remembrance of Me.”

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying , “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament, in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.  This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

THE SACRAMENT OF THE ALTAR

What is the Sacrament of the Altar? It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ Himself for us Christians to eat and to drink.

Bible Passage:   We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life (Romans 6:4)

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

What benefits does Baptism give?  It works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.

Which are these words and promises of God?  Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Mark: “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned”.  Mark 16:16

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

What is Baptism?  Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God’s command and combined with God’s Word.

Which is that word of God? Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”  [Matt. 28:19]

The Third Article: Sanctification

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

What does this mean?

I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.
This is most certainly true.

The Second Article: Redemption
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
What does this mean?
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord. Who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and
with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true.

The First Article: Creation
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
What does this mean?
I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them. He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily
provides me with all that I need to support this body and life. He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most

What does this mean?
With these words God tenderly invites us to believe that He is our true Father and
that we are His true children, so that with all boldness and confidence we may ask
Him as dear children ask their dear father.

Pizza Party Time!

It is that time of year again!  Time for the year end pizza party for midweek.  Everyone needs to bring $4 and their own beverage.  We'll meet at 6 for opening, and then enjoy some pizza!  Thanks for a great year!

All students are to be able to recite all of the books of the Old Testament by Wednesday.

5-8th graders are to continue working on the Petitions of the Lord's Prayer or Baptism from the Small Catechism, wherever they are. We are working independently, at our own speed for the remainder of this year.

Memory Work for January 16

Grades 1-4 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.

You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16

Grades 5-8: The Fifth Petition
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
What does this mean?
We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would not look at our sins, or
deny our prayer because of them. We are neither worthy of the things for which
we pray, nor have we deserved them, but we ask that He would give them all to us
by grace, for we daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but punishment. So we
too will sincerely forgive and gladly do good to those who sin against us.

Memory Work for Wednesday, Dec. 19

Grades 1-4 are to continue learning their parts for the Christmas Program.

Grades 5-8 are to learn The Third Article of the Lord's Prayer.
The Third Petition
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
What does this mean?
The good and gracious will of God is done even without our prayer, but we pray in
this petition that it may be done among us also.
How is God's will done?
God's will is done when he breaks and hinders every evil plan and purpose of the
devil, the world, and our sinful nature, which do not want us to hallow God's name
or let His kingdom come; and when He strengthens and keeps us firm in His Word
and faith until we die. This is His good and gracious will.

Christmas Caroling

The shut in members of our congregation always look forward to the evening when our children come to sing Christmas carols to them! We will be caroling on Wednesday evening, December 19, beginning at 6:00! Dress warmly and be prepared to sing! Cookies and hot cocoa will be served afterwards.

Midweek Memory work for Dec. 12

The students in grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 are to study your Christmas parts, as assigned at midweek tonight. IF you did not get a part, or if you DID get a part and won't be here on Christmas Eve, please call Pastor as soon as possible!!

Students in grades 5-8 are to learn the 2nd Petition of the Lord's Prayer. You are also to begin working on your parts for the Christmas program!
