High School Youth Bible Study

Lenten Services begin

Ash Wednesday, Feb. 25, marks the beginning of our Wednesday Lenten services.  We will have a Divine Service beginning at 7:30.  Refreshments will follow.

The focus for this year's Lenten Services will be the Fruits of the Spirit.

Adult Bible Class

begins a new topic Sunday, Feb. 8.  We covered the first couple fo pages of the Good News issue on The Apostle's Creed.  Please join us next week for a continuation of the lesson.  Class begins immediately following the worship service.  Cookies and coffee are usually available!

Presentation on Pastor's Russia Trip

Pastor will give a slide show presentation about his trip to Russia this summer on Wednesday evening at 7:30 in the fellowship hall.  This event is open to all members of the community, so please invite some friends and come and hear about what is happening in the Lutheran church in Lithuania, Latvia and Russia (Moscow and Siberia).

Volunteers NEEDED!

It is Sunday School and Midweek class time again, and teachers are needed.  Please see Pastor, Mary R., Candace A. or Sheryl H. if you can volunteer an hour or so a week to teach the children of our congregation!  Thanks!

Pizza Party Time!

It is that time of year again!  Time for the year end pizza party for midweek.  Everyone needs to bring $4 and their own beverage.  We'll meet at 6 for opening, and then enjoy some pizza!  Thanks for a great year!

Mark your calendars for VBS!

The dates have been set and the curriculum has been chosen.  Our Vacation Bible School will be held at St. Paul's from June 2-6 from 6:15-8:15.  An evening meal WILL be provided, so kids can come straight from ball practice.

Large Catechism Study Questions

Here is the "assignment" for the Large Catechism, 3rd and 4th Petitions of the Lord's Prayer. See the previous post for links to the Large Catechism text.

Read in the Large Catechism the Lord’s Prayer The Third
Petition, pages 145 to 417 and answer the following questions:

1. What are some ways in which the devil opposes and blocks the fulfillment of God’s will?


2. Why should Christians expect the devil and his angels along with the world to be our enemies?


3. In paragraph 65 Luther speaks of the blessed holy cross. From the context, tell what specifically he is referring to. (See also Matthew 16:24-27)

4. What should we be ready to sacrifice?


5. Read again the verses of “A Mighty Fortress” on page 2 of this study guide. From these words and the Large Catechism, describe what God uses to ensure His will is done.


6. Read John 6:40. What is God’s will?

Read in the Large Catechism The Fourth Petition pages 417-418.

1. Can you think of historical or modern instances that illustrate well how a disruption in domestic and civil relationships interfere with the necessities of life?


2. Here and in the Small Catechism, Luther gives a seemingly exhaustive list of stuff included under “Daily Bread.” Considering our 21st Century’s wider awareness of the necessities of life, can you add to the list?


3. Why would it be fitting for the coat of arms of the prince to feature a loaf of bread?


4. Why is it said that this petition directed especially against the devil?


5. Review the Small Catechism on this petition (p. 335) and Psalm 145:15-16. Is God just waiting for us to pray so that He can give us what we need?

Read in the Large Catechism the Fifth Petition pages 418-420

1. Is God pacing around in heaven just waiting for sinners to repent and ask for forgiveness so that He can have mercy on them? When does God give forgiveness?


2. Then what purpose does it serve for us to ask for forgiveness again and again?


3. Why is God purposefully trying to break our pride and keep us in humility?


4. What makes us confident in heart enough to stand before God and pray?


5. How does the clause “as we forgive those who trespass against us” serve as a sign to strengthen and comfort us?

Sunday Afternoon Bible Study

will be on Sunday, November 18 at 4 pm in the fellowship hall. We will continue our study of Luther's Large Catechism, covering the Lord's Prayer, Petitions 3 and 4. Luther's Large Catechism Study

In an attempt to get through the 10 commandments before taking a break for the summer, the study for Luther's Large Catechism will be meeting this Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30. We will be continuing with the lessons on the 7th and 8th commandments. See you there!

Luther's Large Catechism Study

Our Sunday afternoon study of Luther's Large Catechism will continue on Sunday, April 29 at 4 pm in the fellowship hall. We will be discussing the Fourth Commandment.

Holy Week and Easter Service Times

Maundy Thursday Service will be Thursday evening at 7:30.

Good Friday worship will be on Friday evening at 7:30.

Easter morning worship is at 9:00, following a sunrise breakfast by the youth group (serving from 7:00-8:30 in the fellowship hall)

Large Catechism Study 3/25

We will go back to our regularly scheduled time of 4:00 pm this week. We'll begin where we left of last week, with the Explanation of the Appendix to the First Commandment, and we will continue on with the Second Commandment. Read up on those parts if you have a chance, but if you don't get to it this week, it's still OK to attend the study!

Large Catechism Study

TIME CHANGE: This Sunday ONLY, we will meet at 2:30 in the fellowship hall. If you have a chance before the class, please read Luther's writings on the First Commandment in the Large Catechism. See Pastor for a Study Guide!

Bible Study, Sunday Afternoons

We will be using our NEW Book of Concord (or if you didn't purchase one, an older edition will be fine!) to spend some time studying Luther's LARGE Catechism. The study begins on Sunday, March 11 at 4:00 PM in the fellowship hall! See Pastor for a study guide.

If you don't own a Book of Concord and would like to participate in the study, copies of Luther's Large Catechism are available. See Pastor if you need a copy to read!
